Frequently Asked Questions

We gathered the answers to some popular questions below. If you can’t find your question below feel free to contact us, and we’ll be happy to help.

Once my dog returns home from the board and train, how often should I work with them?

Ideally, dedicate a few minutes each day to reinforce what we’ve taught your dog. We’ll provide you with comprehensive guidance to ensure you have the knowledge and skills necessary for daily maintenance. Spending just 5 to 10 minutes on these exercises can yield a significant positive impact!

Is it possible to train an older dog?

Yes, indeed. Training dogs is easier when they’re young. As they grow older, their habits become harder to change. But with consistent daily training, it’s still possible to teach them new behaviors, even if it takes longer.

I feel bad locking my dog up in a crate, do I have to?

Dogs are den animals and it is important for all to remember that. It’s crucial for dogs to learn crate acceptance, as they will often find themselves in one at the vet, during travel, or at the groomer. A dog comfortable in a crate makes care easier for everyone. Although they don’t need to be crated all the time, our training ensures your dog returns home crate-trained, setting the foundation for good boundaries inside your home.

What if my dog doesn’t need an entire obedience program because we only have one small problem?

Small problems such as accidents in the house, jumping on people, sudden energy impulses, chewing, nipping, etc. are extremely common and may not seem like things they need an entire program to solve. However, obedience fixes ALL behavioral issues. If your dog has a solid foundation in obedience, all of those small issues go away!

What will my dog be exposed to during training?

In essence, your dog will experience a variety of situations encompassing different sounds, environments, scents, people, and fellow dogs during our training. This exposure is integral in fostering their confidence and adaptability.

What do you base your pricing off of?

Our pricing is all-inclusive, reflecting the ongoing care and training your dog receives during their stay. It’s structured around the daily time and attention we dedicate to their well-being and development, ensuring they receive consistent focus and support.

Where will my dog be staying when they are in a board & train program?

This is an excellent question, and one we’re eager to address because it speaks to what sets us apart. Your dog will experience a variety of environments with us. Factors such as weather, training level, and travel determine whether they’re enjoying the sunshine in an outdoor kennel, safely transported on the dog truck to training grounds, or resting indoors in a crate after a productive day of work.

How old does my dog have to be to enroll in a board & train program?

To ensure a safe and healthy environment for your dog at our facility, full vaccinations are required, and we kindly ask that dogs be at least 5 months old. However, for puppies, we offer alternative options for their specific needs—please explore those available choices.

Will my dog remember me after sending them away for that long?

Absolutely! Dogs have an incredible memory for their owners, regardless of the duration of separation. However, we highly recommend that owners participate in their dog’s training to understand the established standards once they’ve progressed to a certain stage. Rest assured, we’ll notify you when that time arrives.

I know my dog listened to the trainer, but will my dog listen after they return home with me?

At Vitality K9, our responsibility is to train your dog, while it’s equally important for owners to reinforce that training at home. We uphold a high standard for every dog in our care, and we encourage our clients to maintain this standard once their dog returns home. To support this, we invite all clients to participate in learning sessions once their dog reaches key training milestones. We’ll inform you when it’s the right time to get involved.

How can I prepare for my dog to come home from a board & train?

As part of our service, we provide a customized list of recommended items to help maintain the training standard for your dog. While the specifics may vary based on your dog’s individual needs, there are essential items every dog owner should have prepared for their dog’s return home, including an appropriately sized crate or kennel, suitable dog food (please see our nutrition page for this), and, of course, a loving owner!

If I bring my dog home before the end of a 4 week mark, do I still have to pay for the entire month?

Yes, you will still need to pay in full. When you sign up for the program, we reserve a spot for your dog for the entire duration. If you take your dog home early, that reserved spot cannot be filled by another dog from our waiting list until the end of your originally scheduled time. Your payment secures your dog’s place for the full program, regardless of whether they stay for the entire period or not.
