How it Works

Is your dog a graduate of one of our programs but could benefit from a refresher? Introducing our new Tune-Up program, designed to help your dog brush up on their skills and reinforce their training.

  • Must be a graduate of a board and train program
  • Be at least 5 months old
  • Have all their shots up to date

What Your Dog Will Learn

It’s natural for a dog’s skills to decline over time due to factors like aging, changes in environment, and reduced practice time. Even occasional and accidental handler errors can contribute to a decline in obedience skills (Which is okay! Even we as trainers aren’t perfect!) Despite our thorough training efforts during the board and train program, both handler skills and our dogs’ skills may start to slip. That’s where this new program comes in. We’ve created this program to provide our clients with a way to refresh their dog’s training whenever needed. Training isn’t a one-time event—it requires ongoing maintenance and practice. While dogs aren’t perfect, they’re incredibly intelligent and capable of retaining what they’ve learned. They simply need our guidance and opportunities to maintain their skills.

What if I need a refresher and not my dog? If you’re in need of a refresher, chances are your dog could use one too. Our goal is to ensure your dog’s obedience is so solid that even when the handler makes a small mistake (as we all do), the dog knows the right course of action. Just as we did during the board and train program, we’ll refresh your memory. Before your dog completes this program and returns home, we’ll work with you one-on-one until you feel confident in your handling skills once again.

How do I know if my dog is in need of this program? If it’s been some time since your dog completed our board and train program and you notice they’re not responding as promptly or effectively as before, it might be time to get in touch with us. Ideally, your dog should respond immediately when asked, and certainly should respond upon a second request with slightly more pressure. If you feel as though they are always ignoring you or are pushing boundaries you know they shouldn’t, there may be a slight disconnect between you and your dog that has developed over time. This is a common issue and can be resolved. Even we, as trainers, experience this with our own dogs! When such a disconnect occurs, it’s our responsibility to address and rectify it. Consistent practice is crucial for maintaining your dog’s skills, and if they’re not receiving it regularly, their abilities may start to slip. If you can relate to this situation, please feel free to reach out to us.
